CycleScope 1.0 — Cotofu 2026
An oscillator scope for Ableton Live (Max for Live). Free.
Requires Live 12 Suite or Live with Max for Live, and Max 9.
Tested on macOS with Live 12 and Max 9.1. Windows: not tested yet.

CycleScope.amxd Audio Effect. Shows the waveform of the incoming sound:
one cycle locked to its pitch, or its spectrum.
                  The audio passes through unchanged.

Unzip CycleScope_1.0.zip and copy the "CycleScope 1.0" folder to your User Library
or another folder available in Live's Browser. Drag CycleScope.amxd onto the track
of a synthesizer (after the instrument, or on an audio track receiving the synth).
The device contains its scripts; no separate JavaScript installation is needed.

Display (bottom menu: wave / spectrum)
wave : the pitch is detected and the latest cycles are folded onto one cycle,
so the waveform stands still. Faint lines behind it are single cycles.
spectrum : the full spectrum on a log frequency axis, with the harmonics as dots.
It shows what averaging hides: aliasing, noise, detuning, sidebands.
Double-click the display to open it in a large window. Resize the window to
resize the display. Double-click inside the window to close it.

Readouts (above the display)
frequency, note (C3 = 60) and cents, input level
pw : pulse width, shown only for pulse/square-like shapes
even : power of the even harmonics relative to the odd harmonics (1-32)
noise : cycle-to-cycle variation (jitter and noise) relative to the averaged cycle

Controls
gate : below this level the display holds the last cycle in grey
  cycles : 1 / 2 / 4 cycles side by side (wave)
  zoom : auto / 1x - 8x (wave)
avg : averaging time, 10-2000 ms
  harm : number of harmonic dots, 8 / 16 / 32 (spectrum)
ref : overlay an ideal sine / triangle / saw / square, scaled to the measured fundamental
  freeze : stop updating

Orange marks what is sounding now; grey is held or frozen.
Pitch range: about 25 Hz to 4 kHz. Analysis uses L+R.
